Mark where you want to drill holes along the entire length of each rail section so they can be screwed together later. You will use these shorter sections as end caps on either end of the bed frame rail system that you’ll build later.Ĭut one more piece at 2 inches wide with your table or circular saw ( this will be used between two side rails to add stability). This groove allows your mattress’s edges to sit in and prevents them from being exposed.Ĭut two pieces of 1×2 lumber ( about 3 feet long) for these rails, then separate them into four pieces at 2-inch intervals with your table saw or circular saw. Use a router to cut a curved groove along the length of your side rails, about 2/3 of the way from each edge. You can apply a few coats of stain or paint as desired before attaching them to the underside of your bed rails with screws. Once you’ve got your four pieces of wood ready, check each one with a square to make sure they’re all straight, and smooth out any imperfections by sanding them down with 120-grit sandpaper. ![]() We’re using a miter saw because it can make more accurate cuts, but you could use a table or circular saw if you have one available. With the rails cut to 1 3/4″ x 1″, and the sides of the bed at 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″, we’ll need to cut four pieces of 1/2″ plywood that are 14 3/8″ long. drilling machine Creating Top Piece of Floor BedĬut the wood to size.
